All Screen Fingerprint Scanner with camera underneath Huawei working on

Earlier in 2018, the world’s first under-display fingerprint scanner smartphone was introduced. For years we have been waiting to see a smartphone with this technology from companies like Samsung and Apple. Because that time rumours were surrounded around these two tech giants but someone stole the show. It was Vivo in collaboration with Synaptics had announced the Vivo X20 Plus UD. That debuted as the world’s first under-display fingerprint scanner smartphone. Since then the technology is evolving from an optical sensor to ultrasonic sensors. But have not matured yet to work all screen, it works in a certain position where the sensor actually resides. In an interaction with Android Authority Huawei reveals they are working in all screen fingerprint scanner alongside under-display selfie camera technology.

All Screen Fingerprint Authentication

The under-display fingerprint scanner is been there for more than two years. But that technology has not matured yet to work all display. Vivo digs further and able to implement half display fingerprint authentication in their Vivo Apex concept phone. Now, Huawei comes forward and reveals working on an under-display fingerprint authentication alongside a selfie camera underneath. In simple words, the company will allow users to touch anywhere on the screen to unlock the phone. Earlier, we have to put the finger on the screen where the actual sensor resides. The upgrades let you touch anywhere on the screen for the fingerprint authentication in order to unlock the phone or a specific app needs its access.

Further, the company had explained the technology. In theories, we need multiple sensors to cover all screen fingerprint scanner authentications. But that could draw high power in comparison to a single sensor. That translates to shorter battery life, then there is no purpose of using the technology. However, the company has found a solution to the problem. They will be using AI or Machine Learning to deliver power to the specific area sensor where your finger is pointing. That will active only that particular sensor while the rest are will be on standby mode.

Security and Latency

Still, there are some noticeable things. The multiple biometric sensors will lead to an increase in the price of the phone. The company said they are working on to reduce the price of the sensors to make the phone affordable. Besides, the company needs to focus on latency as well as security. A slower sensor with low-level security will not viable for the user experience we need to have in the future. The recent announcement from ZTE reveals under-display selfie camera in collaboration with Visionox. Both the technologies are a generation off, it yet to mature with time.
