MediaTek Dimensity 800U More Affordable than the Dimensity 800

Back in July this year, Taiwanese silicon maker MediaTek had launched Dimensity 720 SoC. The purpose was to make 5G more affordable, shortly after its launch it lacks in performance. Now, the company has come with upgrades over the weak points of Dimensity 720. The MediaTek Dimensity 800U gets unveiled today, it is the third instalment in the Dimensity 800 series. But the newly launched SoC carries the improvements over the Dimensity 720 in the first place.

Dimensity 800 and the Dimensity 800U both of the SoC are almost identical. However, the Dimensity 800U got an advantage, it gets the support of dual 5G standby i.e Dual 5G SIM support. On the other hand, the Dimensity 800 supports only single 5G SIM card. With the newly launched SoC, the company hit two targets at once. It brings improvements over the Dimensity 720 as well as it is more affordable than the Dimensity 800.

In comparison to both Dimensity 800 and the Dimensity 720, the newly launched SoC has 28% faster CPU speed than these two. The Dimensity 800U SoC combines 2XCortex-A76 at 2.4GHz & 6XCortex-A55 at 2GHz CPU cores fabricated in the 7nm process. Besides, it bundled with Mali-G57 MC3 GPU and LPDDR4X RAM up to 12GB alongside UFS 2.2 storage support. While the Dimensity 800 and 720 have almost the same configuration. This duo has 2XCortex-A76 CPUs at 2GHz instead of 2.4GHz in the new SoC. The Dimensity 800 has LPDDR4x RAM support up to 16GB while the Dimensity 800U and 720 have up to 12GB RAM support. Specification wise these three SoC sits close to each other.

MediaTek Dimensity 800U features

Feature-wise, this new SoC loaded with the features including Voice over New Radio (VoNR), 2CC 5G carrier aggregation. Sub-6GHz bands (SA and NSA) excluding the mmWaves, 120Hz display, HDR10+ support, 64MP camera with 4K video encoding/decoding at 30fps. Last but not least the enhanced AI capabilities. The NPU department also improved it gets Voice on Wakeup (VoW) and dynamic noise reduction with dual mic.
